A Bells man in his early 20s has sustained non-life threatening injuries in a shooting around 1 a.m. on Friday, October 2.
Reports of shots fired initially came from the area of Cherryville Road and a short time later from the Willow Creek Apartments.
Suspects were in a dark SUV at the stop sign in front of Bells Funeral Home when they opened fire on the victim as he drove past. According to Bells Assistant Police Chief Kevin Ligon, it appears as though the victim received a gunshot wound to both legs at this time.
The suspects then followed the victim to Willow Creek Apartments where gunfire was exchanged as the victim attempted to exit his vehicle to the safety of an apartment.
Multiple apartment buildings were struck during the incident.
“We’ve had several shootings in the Bells, Alamo and Crockett County areas,” said Chief Ligon. “No one wants to speak up but in cases like this, the community’s help is needed before these situations escalate to injury or even death.”
There is a reward for any information received that leads to an arrest and conviction in this shooting. Contact Bells Police Department Assistant Chief Kevin Ligon at 731-663-3131 or the Crockett County Sheriff’s Department 731-696-2104 with any information regarding this case.
“We appreciate the community for remaining vigilant as we continue to investigate these events,” said Ligon.
This case remains under investigation by the Bells Police Department, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Crockett County Sheriff’s Department.
