This has been a record-breaking season for the Crockett County High School Lady Cav volleyball team.

The team finished the season 35 wins over 14 loses, breaking the school volleyball record for wins. They became regular season champion, district tournament champion, regional champion, sectional champion and won a game at state for the first time in school history.

With a positive atmosphere as parents and a pep bus full of students flooded Middle Tennessee State University to support the Lady Cavs, the team went in to each game feeding off the energy of each other and their supporters.

“Most of our girls have never played in a place as large as the Murphy Center,” said Coach Bobby Rawson. “They’ve never played in a gym where the ball can’t hit the ceiling and it was an experience in itself.”

While this is the seventh time the Lady Cavs have made it to state, this was the first time a state game has been won.

Following the 3-0 loss against Sullivan South early on Tuesday, October 22, the Lady Cavs gave it everything they could in their second match of the double elimination tournament and defeated Livingston Academy 3-0.

The historic win allotted the team an additional day of tournament play on Wednesday, October 23 where they were put out of the tournament in a 3-0 loss to East Hamilton.

Raegan Holyfield had a successful tournament run with 32 kills in the tournament and zero hitting errors against Livingston.

Coach Rawson has coached this team from middle school through high school and takes pride in the accomplishments they have achieved.

“The approach to this season was a little different than past seasons,” he said. “We concentrated on being positive and encouraging each other from the very beginning. Each and every day we talked about the importance of positive energy. The team set personal goals and team goals that went along with this idea. I am so proud of this group for accomplishing their goals and making history in the process. We were able to win the district, region and sectional championship and then to win a game at state was icing on the cake. I am so thankful that God has blessed me with a wonderful opportunity to coach this awesome group of girls. It’s been a fun and thrilling ride.”
