Crockett County Property assessor George Walter Yearwood III pled guilty to simple assault, a class A misdemeanor on September 15.

Yearwood was charged with aggravated assault on August 14, 2019 after Alamo Police Department (APD) and the Crockett County Sheriff’s Department responded to Crockett County Mayor Gary Reasons’ office where a fight was reported.

According to the warrant, Mayor Reasons advised former APD Police Chief Brad York that Yearwood grabbed Reasons with both hands around his throat, shoved him against the wall and made verbal threats to kill him.

Yearwood originally pled not guilty before Judge Mark Agee in Gibson County General Sessions Court the following day.

Over a year later, Yearwood changed his plea to guilty of simple assault on September 15.

Conditions of his plea include judicial diversion until September 14, 2021 that will allow him to have the record expunged after completing all requirements of the agreement. He must pay court costs, attend anger management classes, have no threats or violent contact toward Mayor Reasons and has completed a customary drug screen.
