For some of us, wanting to give back to our communities and local charities can be stressful. It’s difficult to hear the call to give back inside of you but not have the means to do it. Money may make the world go ‘round, but that doesn’t mean it’s the only thing that can help someone in need. In this article, we’ll answer the question, “What can you donate to charity if you don’t have cash?”

Home Goods

If you’re low on cash, you probably already know how important it is to buy things in bulk to save money in the long run. Some of the most requested items at charities and homeless shelters are home goods that are typically available in bulk lots. Toothpaste, deodorant, socks, over-the-counter medicine, and more are all essential items that you can donate instead of money.

Clothes

Whether we’ve bought them ourselves or received them as gifts, everyone has a few pieces of clothing that they yet keep around the house but never wear. As long as they are in good condition, articles of clothing are fantastic donations that can really go a long way to helping people in need. Outerwear, in particular, is vital during the colder seasons when coats and jackets become items of survival rather than just fashion statements.

Your Time

If donating cash isn’t in the cards for you, you can still help out through volunteering. Depending on the charity you want to help, this could mean many different things, but all of them will involve dedicating your own free time to helping others. Whether it’s sorting boxes or ladling out food to the hungry, those who need the assistance will appreciate your efforts.

Your Talents

If you have a particular set of skills that you think could benefit someone else, consider giving them away to someone in need. You could be a teacher or a mentor to a child who doesn’t typically have access to such opportunities or use your writing skills to help job-seekers polish their resumes. People need more than raw money to survive, after all.

Yourself

What can you donate to charity if you don’t have cash? How about yourself? By this, we mean that you can always choose to donate your blood or plasma to a good cause. Some organizations will even pay you for your plasma! There is always a way to help, even if you have to dig deep down to find out how to make it work.
