Crockett County Sheriff’s Department (CCSD) investigators, assisted by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, are continuing their investigation into the facts surrounding the fatal shooting of 31 year-old Danny Sweat on Monday, August 17.
At the time of the shooting, CCSD received a 911 call from the address of 323 Todd Levee Road stating that an individual had been shot. Radio communication indicated the individual had been shot in the chest area and received CPR, but was later determined to be deceased.
According to a statement by the CCSD on Tuesday, August 18, the parties involved have been identified and are cooperating with authorities in this matter.
An update on the investigation from the CCSD states, Dennis R. Haynes, 59, has been arrested on charges of being a felon in possession of a weapon.
The incident began as a verbal dispute about Sweat living at the location.
Once the investigation is complete, the case file will be turned over to the District Attorney of the 28th Judicial District to determine if further charges will be filed in this matter. The investigation is ongoing.
