Mildred Faye Skelton, a loving beacon of strength and compassion in Alamo, Tennessee, departed this life on March 22, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on August 5, 1935, in Alamo, Mildred lived a life of service and devotion to her faith and family. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church Alamo, where she found solace and purpose. Her life was an inspiring testament to the verse, “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.” (1 Peter 4:8).
Mildred was a thoughtful woman who spent her career serving others. She worked in sales at Peebles Department Store and later at Jane’s Fashions, Stephaine Browns Dress Shop, and My Sisters Closet. After her retirement, she served her community as a cook at Humboldt Nursing Home. She was also a dedicated caregiver, sitting with the elderly in Crockett County for many years. An active participant in her children’s lives, she supported them in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and beyond, always doing anything and everything for her children. She was a pillar of strength and love, keeping her family together.
Mildred is survived by her son, Robert Jr., and her grandchildren Hayley Walker (Justice), Hunter Brinkey (Laura Kate), and Robert Reed (Kelsey). She was preceded in death by her parents, James “Jim” Privett and Odell Privett; her daughter, Laura Michelle Reed; her brothers, Lawson and Jerry Privett; her half-sister, Laverne Privett; and her husband, Bob Skelton.
A visitation will be held for Mildred at Ronk Funeral Home, 106 South Bells Street, Alamo, Tennessee, 38001, on Friday, March 28, 2025, from 11:00 until 1:00pm. The funeral service, conducted by Bro. Ken Skelton, will follow at 1:00pm at the same location. Mildred will be laid to rest in Oakview Memorial Park Cemetery.
