Gerald H. Thompson

Gerald H. Thompson, age 78, passed away at his residence in Beech Bluff surrounded by his family. He was born April 24, 1942 in Alamo, to the late Daulton O’Neal Thompson and the late Margarette Delia Pinkston Thompson. Mr. Thompson was also preceded by a brother, Floyd Thompson, and his beloved dog, Happy.
Mr. Thompson was a former member of the Tennessee National Guard based in Alamo and had a long career with the Jackson Police Department where he was named Officer of the Year multiple times. He was the first member of the Motorcycle Division. Many people know him as the officer who worked in downtown Jackson for many years.

Mr. Thompson was the former owner of the motorcycle safety school at Jackson State Community College. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and East Union Baptist Church where he taught the men’s Sunday school class. He loved his horses and his dogs, he spent most of his free time outdoors. He was also an avid Harley Davidson rider and enjoyed rides with friends and was a member of the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club for many years. His favorite trips were the ones he took with his wife, Geraldine, to Idaho and other places both near and far.

Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife of 54 years: Geraldine Brock Thompson; two daughters: Terry Thompson of Alamo and Hope Thompson Sumler of Jackson; two brothers: Don Thompson (Jimmie) and Gaylon Thompson (Jan), all of Alamo; five grandchildren: Gerald Leek (Melissa), Matthew Leek (Chrissy Payne), Casey Leek Bell (Kyle), Bailey Elizabeth Sumler, and Maci Elise Sumler (Jordan Cressman); and ten great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his horse Smokey, who has been with him more than 20 years.

A memorial service was held at East Union Baptist Church on Saturday August 15, 2020 at 2 p.m. The family requested that you wear a mask at the memorial service.
