Crockett County is widely known for its generosity and compassion when it comes to helping neighbors and its community residents. A perfect display of this concern for one another is happening right now at Alamo Food Rite.
For the third year in a row, the store is giving an opportunity for customers to pay it forward by purchasing a $7.00 sack of groceries for families who need help during the holiday season. Not only is the store providing the items below cost, but also the workers themselves are packing and sacking the items that are then carried to the Crockett Cares Food Pantry to be distributed to the people who need it. Items included in the bag are macaroni and cheese, corn, green beans, rice, cake mix, chicken stuffing, and corn muffin mix.
The project began on November 11 and will continue through December 16. While all Food Rite stores are participating, Manager Jerry Webb is particularly proud and amazed at the extravagant generosity of the Alamo community. In just eight days, 636 bags have been bought by the customers. He is likewise touched by the joy and enthusiasm his workers display as they tell customers about the opportunity to purchase a bag and as they take extra time and effort to bag the items during their work day. Manager Webb sums up the success by saying, “They just care about each other.”
