Crockett County is preparing for its second annual “Davy Crockett Day,” set to take place on March 8. The event will feature a 5K run benefiting the Crockett Cares Food Pantry, with special guest Glenn Jacobs, also known as KANE from the wrestling world, in attendance.
Registration for the 5K run begins at 10:30 a.m. at 28 East Main Street in the parking lot. The race will start at 11:30 a.m. A registration fee is required: $20 in advance (by Feb. 26) and $25 on race day. Forms for the race can be picked up at Alamo City Hall.
Rain or shine, the race will go on, according to Alamo Mayor John Avery Emison.
“This is a great fundraiser for the food pantry, as well as a wonderful opportunity for the citizens of Crockett County. We are excited to celebrate and promote our county and its namesake,” said Emison.
Crockett County is named after Davy Crockett, a frontiersman, politician, and folk hero. Crockett fought in the War of 1812 and helped defend the Alamo—a name honored by the city of Alamo in Crockett County. Born in Greene County, Tennessee, Crockett also served as a Representative for Tennessee.
Mayor Emison hopes to continue this event for years to come and is open to new ideas to make it even bigger and better.
