Crockett County Cavalier basketball faced off against South Gibson Hornets Monday, January 14 in a fierce battle ending in overtime.
The teams battled closely each quarter with the Cavs leading at the end of the first and third quarters. A tied score 59-59 ended the fourth sending the game into overtime. Crockett fell to South Gibson scoring only 4 points to the Hornets 7 points in the final round leaving the Cavs defeated 68-63.
Josh Owens had an exceptional night with 18 points scored, Kenan Dupree scored 13 points, Devion Lloyd scored 11 points, Cade Morphis scored 9 points, Luke Pratt scored 6 points, Porter Lowery scored 5 points and Payton Currie scored a single point.
The Cavs continued to battle strong against Westview Martin on Friday, January 17 where they defeated the Chargers 53-44.
The contest was close throughout ending the first quarter with Cavs leading 15-10, the second with Chargers leading 25-17. A three point shot by Noah LaRue and layup by Hayden Molten in final seconds of the third left Cavs leading again 34-31.
Currie, Lloyd, Lowery, Pratt and Owens contributed to 19 points scored and a strong defense in the fourth to defeat the Chargers
Curries scored 13 points, Lowery scored 10 points, Dupree scored 7 points, Pratt scored 5 points, Lloyd scored 4 points; Luke Smith, LaRue, Owens and Cade Morphis contributed 3 points each and Moten scored two points.
The Cavaliers will return to the court Tuesday, January 21 at 6 p.m. in Milan, at home against Obion Central on Friday, January 24 at 6 p.m. and in Gibson County on Monday, January 27 at 6 p.m.
