Kyle East, of Crockett County, was selected to participate in the University of Tennessee at Martin’s WestStar Leadership Program class of 2020.
East, financial representative with WoodmenLife and Woodmen Financial Services, serves on the board for the Crockett Memorial Library and as an Antioch Cemetery Trustee. East is a Crockett County Leadership graduate and a recipient of the 2019 Crockett County Man of the Year Award. He joins 28 other participants from 18 counties at a series of seminars held through June that focus on topics such as economic development, public policy, education and technology.
Being a part of Leadership Crockett County and being accepted in to WestStar Leadership has helped East aspire to larger goals and investing his time and skills into the community in ways he had not considered before.
“I’m honored to be a part of it. Only 30 people per year across west Tennessee get to participate,” said East. “It was a bigger honor to be chosen after applying only once. I’m excited to bring back ideas from other counties to be proactive in attracting economic development and individuals to bring work and raise their family in Crockett County.”
The WestStar Leadership Program was founded at UT Martin in 1989 and is the state’s oldest and largest regional leadership program. The program equips regional leaders with new skills and knowledge designed to impact the educational, economic and social development of West Tennessee. The program also provides members with a growing network of community-minded people committed to serving the area. Dr. Charley Deal serves as WestStar executive director.
