Mrs. Janell “Nell” Davis Stephens age 84 of Bells, passed away Saturday, November 13, 2021 at her residence.
She was born January 23, 1937 to the late Cecil William Davis and Azzie Morine Lowery Davis. Mrs. Stephens worked for many years at South Central Bell in Memphis and later twenty-five years at Service Merchandise in Jackson after the family relocated back to Crockett County. One of her favorite hobbies was photography as she enjoyed taking pictures and even entering them in to contests winning many ribbons. Gardening, flowers and sunsets were also things she loved, enjoyed and embraced. Mrs. Stephens loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. Until she was unable to attend due to health reasons, Mrs. Stephens was an active member of Bells First Baptist Church. Over the years, she taught both Sunday school and Vacation Bible school as well as a member of the choir.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Buddy Stephens; son, Phillip Daniel Stephens and a son in law, Ricci Lynn.
Survivors include three daughters, Lisa Lynn of Hermitage, Leigh Hayes of Bells and Kim Nanney (Cayce) also of Bells; brother, Jerry Neal Davis of Bells; sister, Jean Campbell of Washington. Other survivors include five grandchildren, Drew Nanney, Caleb Nanney, Tyler Hayes (Haley), Erin Schweitzer (Kelsey) and Jordan Lynn (Diana) as well as four great grandchildren, Kade, Penelope, Hayes and Amelia Kate.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Stephens will be conducted Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary of Bells First Baptist Church with the pastor, Bro. Mark Wade officiating. Burial will follow in the Gadsden Methodist Church Cemetery. The Stephens family will receive friends at the Church on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the service hour.
The family would like to thank all of the caregivers for their love and compassion taking wonderful care of Mrs. Stephens over the previous years. They would also like to thank Hospice of West Tennessee for their care, compassion and support.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.act.alz.org/donate or to Bells First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 206 Bells, TN 38006 in memory of Mrs. Stephens.
