Inmate found deceased in Crockett County Jail

The Crockett County Sheriff’s Department released a report around 1 p.m. on Thursday June 17.

Sheriff Troy Klyce stated that during hourly routine cell inspections, Crockett County Jail Corrections officers discovered an inmate dead from an apparent suicide.

The inmate was identified as Jacob Gammons, 24, and the area was secured.

According to normal procedures, Sheriff Klyce notified District Attorney General Frederick Agee and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) was requested to conduct a death investigation.

Gammons body was taken to the Shelby County Forensic Center for autopsy.

According to Crockett County Court records, Gammons original offense was theft of property. He took a guilty plea of joy riding and was sentenced on January 14 to 11 month 29 days that was suspended to time served. He was ordered to pay restitution within 60 days and placed on supervised probation.

He violated his probation on May 17. He was arrested on that violation on June15.
