Home destroyed in late night blaze

On Saturday, March 28, Bells Fire Department, Gadsden Fire Department, Alamo Fire Department, Crockett County Sheriff’s Department, Emergency Management Agency and an American Red Cross representative responded to a fully engulfed home at 4411 Gum Flat Road in Bells around 9:30 p.m.

According to Bells Fire Chief Wayne Jernigan, “no one was in the home at the time of the fire.”

The house was still smoldering but causing no danger around midnight. The home reignited two additional times around 4 a.m. and 9 a.m. Sunday, March 29.

The home was a rental property but the occupant’s names have not been released.

The fire remains an ongoing investigation with no know cause at this time.
