Funeral Services for Freed Jones, age 83 will be held at Ronk Funeral Home on Friday, November 13, 2020 at 1 p.m. with Charles Yawn and Larry Sweeney officiating. Visitation will be held at Ronk Funeral Home, Friday before the service from 12 – 1 p.m. Interment will follow at the Cairo Cemetery.
Freed passed away on November 7, 2020. He was born November 13, 1936 to the late Edgar and Nina Shivers Jones in the Cairo Community.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Clifford Jones; sisters, Lavenia Emison and Lavelle Carlson who were twins; nephews, Travis Jones, Richard Carlson; and niece, Teresa Howell.
He is survived by his wife, Ja’net Knight Jones who he married on June 10, 1962. He is also survived by a niece, Shirley Emison.
After graduation from Alamo High School, he enlisted in the Air Force for four years (1955-1959). In 1966 he decided to continue his formal education attending Freed Hardeman College, receiving an Associate in Arts degree, University of Tennessee Martin receiving a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree, and Memphis State University in Memphis, TN receiving a Master of Science degree. After getting his Masters degree he taught two years at Columbia State Community College, Columbia, TN. Most of his working career was spent at the Defense Logistics Agency, Memphis TN. He retired on August 30, 1993 after 24 years of Federal Service.
Freed was buried with his Lord in baptism at the Alamo Church of Christ on July 26, 1952 by Clovis Caudle and remained active his entire life.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to N.O.A.H. or The Crockett Mission.
The family also ask that anyone planning to attend services please wear a mask as precaution.
