Ewell Ernest James, age 76, went peacefully to his heavenly home on January 25, 2023, at his home in St. Louis, Missouri.
Ewell was born to Livingston and Lola Reams James on April 30, 1946, in Bells TN.
Ewell was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Ivory Moore.
Ewell met Brenda Mitchell McNealy at the Midgett’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Alamo, TN. They married at the same church two years later, on June 29, 1996. They were married for 26 years.
Ewell enjoyed being with family and friends and watching TV mysteries and detective stories. He really enjoyed riding his red Honda Gold Wing trike with Brenda.
Ewell accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at the Wortham Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at a very young age. He later became a member of the San Francisco Temple Church of God in Christ in St. Louis Missouri.
Ewell graduated from Central High School in 1964. After high school he attended Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee. He also studied at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, New York.
Ewell had a very successful career in law enforcement for 36 years.
Ewell graduated from the Greater St. Louis Police Academy. He was an investigator for the major case squad for the Greater St. Louis Area. He retired from the Berkeley police department in Berkeley Missouri on October 6, 2003.
Ewell’s loving and fond memories will be cherished by his wife Brenda James, and his twin brother William B. James, of Bells TN, his sister Marilyn (Earl) Morris, of Toledo, Ohio, his son Jay (Carla) James, of O’Fallon, Illinois, his daughters Barbara McClendon, of Shreveport, Louisiana, Tonya McNealy Webb, and Tracy McNealy Jenkins, of Murfreesboro, TN. And a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
