David William Buford

Memphis – David William Buford, 86, of Memphis, TN passed away to his heavenly home on Friday afternoon, October 8,2021.

Born on March 29, 1935, in Jackson, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Ben Bogard Buford and Orban Carter Buford.  Growing up near Shelby Forrest and in Maury City, he graduated from Crockett County High School in 1954.  David was a veteran who served with the US Army.

He was also a 23-year employee of Taystee Bread and retired from Luttrell Belting & Supply.

David had a love for sports, which he shared with his sons.  He especially loved University of Memphis basketball and had been a season ticket holder going back to the Field House days.  He was also a passionate St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.

David was a long-time member of Macon Road Church of Christ.

In 1958, David married Ruth Ann Beckham, a love and companionship that would last for 62 years, until her death earlier this year.  Also preceding him in death, was one grandchild, Zachary Buford.

He is survived by his 2 sons, Michael (Susie) Buford and Jeffery (Jill) Buford. He also leaves 5 grandchildren, who affectionately know him as “Paw Paw”: Joshua (Jordan) Buford, Nicholas Buford, Meagan Newton (Tim), Christian Buford, and Travis Buford. David also leaves 2 great-grandchildren, Dakota and Brinn-Leigh Newton.
