Crockett County Cavaliers scored their first season victory over Ripley Tigers on Friday, September 4.
In a tight back and forth game, Cavs pulled out the win 10-0.
Hayden Moten put the Cavs on the board at the top of the second quarter followed by a good field goal kick by Alex Nolan for a score of 7-0. Leanthony Cathey gained momentum for the Cavs with a 23-yard gain followed by a 33-yard gain with just over two minutes left until halftime.
With only 11 seconds left in the first half, Cavs went for the conversion kick by Nolen to pull ahead 10-0.
Multiple turnovers throughout the second half of the game left both teams scoring no additional points.
Total all purpose yards included Payton Currie 77, Cathey 71, Jonathan Pankey 15, VJ Pillar 15, Moten 15, Brixton Miller 11 and Lukas Barger 11.
Defensively Currie was credited 8 tackles and 4 assists, Pillar 6 tackles and 5 assists, Miller 8 tackles and 1 assist, Moten 5 tackles and 2 assists, Pankey 5 tackles, Andrew Hilliard two tackles and six assists, Adam Castellaw 7 assists, Cathey one tackle and four assists, Vaden Williams 2 tackles and 1 assist, Noah LaRue 1 tackle and 1 assist and Brayden Butler Blake Cathey and Jaylon Powell an assist each.
“I thought we played well defensively,” said Coach Kevin Ward. “We ran to the ball better but have to get things working better offensively and special teams.”
Cavaliers are scheduled to play South Gibson County High School this Friday, September 11 at 7 p.m.
